Critics of the Nord Stream 2 operation fear Europe will become more dependent on Russian gas, as well as an economic loss for Ukraine and other traditional gas transit countries.

Until now, the US has tried to prevent the project, including imposing sanctions on the companies involved. However, last July, Berlin and Washington reached an agreement regarding the approval of the pipeline operation.
