A spokesman for the league called Tom Hardy a “really good guy” who was a “real pleasure” to host his tournament. “Everyone recognized him, but he was very humble and happy to give people time to take a picture with him,” a spokesperson for the tournament told Hyde News & Pictures. “It was a real pleasure to have him compete in our event.”

It is not the first time that Tom Hardy participates in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments

This was not the first time that the Hollywood star had participated in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition. In August, Tom Hardy won the REORG Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Wolverhampton, a tournament intended to raise money for military personnel, veterans, and emergency service workers.

The actor is a trustee of REORG, a charity that teaches jiu-jitsu to people who are seriously injured or suffering from post-traumatic stress and depression.

Hardy’s opponent, veteran Danny Appleby, told local media that he was surprised to see the actor, whom he described as “a very, very good boy,” appear in the semi-final of the tournament.

“I was shocked,” Appleby said, continuing, “Hardy said to me, ‘Forget it’s me and do what you normally would.'” He’s a really strong guy… you wouldn’t believe him being famous.”

“I’ve been to about six tournaments and I’ve been on the podium in all of them. But he’s probably the toughest competitor I’ve ever had, he definitely lived up to the Bane character, that’s for sure,” said Danny Appleby, referring to Tom Hardy’s character in the 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises.
